Privacy policy

Last updated: August 2026

ToolsForMotion ("we", "us", "our") operates toolsformotion.com. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you visit our website, create an account, purchase our products, or sign up to our mailing list. It also covers our desktop software, which runs on your own computer and connects to us to check your licence.

Your account

When you create an account on our website, we collect your email address and a password. Your password is securely hashed and stored by Supabase, our authentication and database provider. We never have access to your plain-text password.

Your account allows you to:

  • Access your purchased products and downloads
  • View and manage your license keys
  • Download invoices for your orders

We store your email address, purchase history, license keys, and download records in our database hosted on Supabase. This data is used solely to provide you with access to your products and support.

If you register interest in a tool that is not yet released, we record that you asked, and we may add you to a mailing list for that tool so we can tell you when it is available. You can unsubscribe from that list at any time.

Payments

All payments and transactions are handled by Polar, our payment processor. Polar processes your payment, collects sales tax, and handles billing on our behalf.

When you make a purchase or download a free product, Polar collects:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Payment information (for paid products)
  • Billing address

We do not store your payment details. All payment data is handled entirely by Polar. We strongly recommend reading Polar's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service as they are responsible for how your payment data is processed and stored.

Newsletter

If you sign up to our mailing list, your email address is collected and managed through Kit (formerly ConvertKit), our email marketing provider. We use this solely to send you product updates, new tool announcements, and occasional offers.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send. Once unsubscribed, your email will be removed from our mailing list.

Your data

We use your data to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Deliver your purchases, license keys, and download links
  • Send transactional emails (order confirmations, password resets)
  • Provide customer support
  • Send product updates and announcements (if subscribed)

We will never sell your personal information to third parties.

Desktop software

Some of our tools are panels that run inside After Effects on your own computer. This section covers those, and it is the part of this policy most likely to be new to you.

Your work stays on your machine.

Our panels do not upload your content. Your compositions, footage, images, audio, colours, folder names and library locations are never sent to us. There is no feature that uploads them and no way for us to see them.

What the software does send us.

When you sign in or when the software checks your licence, it sends:

  • Your account details, so we can confirm what you have access to
  • An identifier associated with the computer you are using, and the name your computer reports for itself. Computer names are often set to a person's name by default, so this can identify you. It is shown back to you in your account so you can see which machines are in use and remove one
  • Basic technical details of the version you are running: the version of the tool, your operating system and its version, and your After Effects version

We use these to confirm your licence is valid, to apply the limits on how many machines a licence can run on, to prevent repeated free trials on the same machine, and to know which versions are in use when we investigate a problem. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in protecting our software from unlicensed use and in supporting it properly.

Your IP address is visible to us whenever the software contacts our servers, as it is with any internet connection. We also use it as one signal when deciding whether to allow a free trial.

We want to be plain about one thing: the computer identifier is linked to your account, so it is personal data. We do not describe it as anonymous.

What we do not do.

There is no analytics, no usage or behavioural tracking, no session recording, no crash reporting and no advertising or marketing identifiers in any of our desktop software. We do not track which features you use or how you work.

Diagnostic logs.

If you turn on diagnostic logging to help us with a support issue, the software writes a log file on your computer. These logs stay on your machine. They are never uploaded, and we only ever see one if you choose to attach it to a support email. Logs can contain file paths, which may include project or client folder names, so it is worth a glance before you send one.

Other connections.

Besides our own servers, the software contacts our content delivery network to check for updates and, on first run, to download a media component it needs. No account information is sent with those requests, though as with any download the network sees your IP address.

Third parties

We use the following third-party services to operate our website and business. Each processes only what it needs for the job listed.

  • Polar handles payments, billing and tax. Privacy Terms
  • Supabase provides our accounts and database, including your email, hashed password, purchases and licence records. Privacy
  • Kit manages our mailing list, if you subscribe to it. Privacy
  • Resend delivers transactional email such as order confirmations and password resets. Privacy
  • BunnyCDN delivers our videos, product downloads, and updates to our desktop software. It sees your IP address, as any connection does. No account details are sent with the requests our software makes. Privacy
  • Vercel hosts the website and keeps standard server logs. Privacy

Cookies

Our website uses essential cookies to keep you logged in to your account. These are strictly necessary for the site to function and cannot be switched off. We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking.

Cookies we set:

  • Authentication session cookie. Keeps you logged in to your account. Set by Supabase and automatically refreshed while your session is active.

Third-party services we rely on (such as Polar during checkout or BunnyCDN for video playback) may set their own cookies. Please refer to their respective privacy policies for details.

Analytics

We do not currently use any analytics or tracking tools on our website. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated accordingly.

Our desktop software contains no analytics either. It does send the version information described under Desktop software when it checks your licence, which tells us which versions are in use, but nothing about how you work or which features you use.

Your rights

Under GDPR and UK data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data and account
  • Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time

To exercise any of these rights, email us at support@toolsformotion.com. Since Polar handles some of your personal data as our payment processor, certain requests may need to be directed to them. We are happy to assist with this process.

Retention

Your account data and purchase records are kept for as long as your account is active, and as needed for accounting, licensing, and customer support purposes.

Records relating to licence activations and to free trial eligibility, which include the computer identifier and IP address described under Desktop software, are kept while they remain relevant to protecting our software from unlicensed use. We do not currently delete these automatically. Some are kept even where a trial was refused, because deleting them would defeat the purpose of the check.

If you wish to delete your account, contact us and we will remove your data from our systems, including those activation and trial records.

Email subscribers can unsubscribe at any time, and their data will be removed from our mailing list. For data held by Polar, their retention policies apply.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
